How do I handle criticism?

I want to share with you how I handle criticism. This is a topic that may be useful to people who are starting out a business. It also applies to everyone in general.

I was hesitant to create Dani Art Shop because of the criticism or opinions of others but it wasn’t until I came to terms with myself and overcame this fear that I decided to launch it. I had always painted and always dreamt about doing this but I was too afraid. One day I stepped out of my comfort zone and decided to pursue this dream of mine. How did I do this? Well I thought a lot.

I realized that everyone is different, hence we have different opinions and tastes. I was confident with my art creations and absolutely loved what I do, so I decided that if I like it maybe others will like it as well. Coming into this, I knew that not everyone was going to like all my pieces, and that’s ok. I think it is very important to accept this. Another thought that pushed me out of my comfort zone was the fact that I wanted to have a positive impact in this world, and I strongly believe that through art we can appreciate different point of views as it opens our minds to think in various ways. Art also plays a big role in decor, which is another passion of mine. A painting can give the mood of an entire room and I want to help make this happen! My art is colourful and the use of colours work together to channel joy and happiness to my collector’s spaces.

I think self-esteem, self-worth and confidence are key on handling criticism. If someone doesn’t like your art, it doesn’t mean that you are not an artist. They may not like the artwork but they may appreciate the skills that went behind to create it. You should know and value your own abilities and understand the effort put in creating a piece. To those of you who don’t create visual art, this also applies when creating music, videos, photography and content in general.

This is not to say that I ignore criticism. I don’t, constructive criticism is always welcome, why not hear what others have to say? In order to put a piece out there I need to love it and it needs to represent the purpose that Dani Art Shop stands for.
